(ANSA) - Rome, August 8 - Police late on Thursday nabbed Colombian drug lord and right-wing paramilitary chief Domenico Antonio Mancuso Hoyos in a small town in Liguria, officials announced Friday.
Mancuso, 49, was wanted on an international arrest warrant for more than 130 murders, conspiracy, subversion, and armed robbery in Colombia. Mancuso had been hiding out in Italy for more than two years, and is thought to have been about to launder drug money through real estate deals including a five-star hotel, Colombian media reported.
He is considered responsible for the massacre of more than 80 peasants in the summer of 1999 in the Colombian village of La Gabarra, among other crimes, according to Colombian National Police Chief Rodolfo Palomino.
Mancuso is awaiting extradition in a Genoa prison.
