(ANSA) - Rome, July 24 - Toll motorway construction and
management company Autostrade per l'Italia on Thursday warned
drivers to stay off the country's highways on Saturday August 9,
when holiday traffic is expected to be most intense.
Heavy traffic is also expected in the direction of coastal
and mountain resorts on all weekends in the first half of
August, while motorists can expect tailbacks heading towards the
country's major cities during weekends in the second half of the
month and over the first weekend of September.
However, forecasts suggest this traffic will not be
sufficiently heavy to warrant advising drivers to stay off the
roads.
