(ANSA) - Naples, April 16 - A top fugitive in the Camorra mafia lost 25 kilos by cycling while in hiding in Nice, police said upon his arrest after four years on the run Tuesday.
They also said Antonio Lo Russo had just met relatives and the young girlfriend who had just given him a son, before trying to flee the French Riviera town after getting wind of police probes.
Lo Russo, 33, one of Italy's 100 most-wanted fugitives, was taken into custody on the famed Promenade des Anglais at around 19:00 local (18:00 GMT) Tuesday.
He reportedly asked the French police officers - reinforced by agents from Marseille - if they spoke Italian, reassuring them he was unarmed.
"How did you find me?" he asked before complimenting them on his arrest.
As well as fathering a child during his time on the run, Lo Russo also attended some games of Napoli soocer club, sparking a political and judicial row.
