Work to reopen Frejus rail tunnel to begin this autumn

For now focus is on shoring up the mountain - Sncf

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 26 - Work to reopen the Frejus rail tunnel linking France and Italy through the Alps that has been closed since August due to a landslide in Maurienne valley on the French side is to begin this autumn, France railway operator Sncf said on Friday.
Currently work is focused on shoring up the mountain from which 15,000 cubic metres of rock broke away on August 27, blocking the rail tunnel and disrupting vehicle traffic through the road tunnel.
Since then the French A43 motorway through the tunnel has also been operating on two lanes instead of four, putting pressure on other cross-border routes such as the Mont Blanc tunnel, where scheduled renovation work consequently had to be postponed.
