(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 31 - Some 20% of young people are still typically precarious and on term contracts after five years of work, Bank of Italy Governor Ignazio Visco said in his final annual report Wednesday.
"In many cases, fixed-term employment is associated with very prolonged precarious conditions; the share of young people who are in fixed-term employment after five years remains close to 20%", he said.
"Too many, not only young people, do not have regular employment or, despite having it, are not given adequate contractual conditions", Visco stressed, also reporting a growth, now at a rate of 30%, of workers with particularly low annual salaries, below 60% of the Italian median pay of 11,600 euros per year.
