(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 31 - Italian energy giant Enel has landed three contracts under the EU-funded post-COVID National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) to produce green hydrogen as part of the plan that aims to make the Italian economy greener and more modern, the electrical power giant's Italy director told ANSA Friday.
The NRRP funds that Enel has won by submitting various projects, mainly in the 'Green Revolution and Ecological Transition' (M2) mission, amount to almost EUR 4 billlion, said Enel's Italy director Nicola Lanzetta, speaking to ANSA, assuring that the projects were on schedule.
In particular, the projects include investments on distribution networks with a smart grids perspective, the expansion of the 3Sun photovoltaic panel factory in Catania, the development of plants for the production of green hydrogen and the improvement of the water infrastructure of the Pozzillo dam (Enna).
Enel has been awarded NRRP funds totalling around 38 million euro in the regions of Puglia, Calabria and Liguria for projects on the production of green hydrogen in disused industrial areas, according to the announcement made by the three regions between 30 and 31 March, Lanzetta told ANSA, explaining that the projects will make it possible to valorise areas where there are disused thermoelectric power plants: the one in Rossano (Calabria), the Federico II plant in Brindisi and the Eugenio Montale plant in La Spezia.
In each tender, Enel was awarded first place in the merit list.
