INAIL to pay work-experience victims too

Law to be changed after Giuliano De Seta's family denied money

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 26 - Italian workplace accident insurance agency INAIL will henceforth pay victims who died on work experience too after the family of an 18-year-old student was denied compensation for his death on the job in a factory near Venice in mid-September, according to an agreement reached Thursday between Labour Minister Marina Calderone and Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara.
The family of Giuliano De Seta, who died in an accident in the BC Service plant at Noventa di Piave on September 16, last week saw their bid for compensation turned down after a court upheld INAIL's current rule that only the main wage earner is eligible for it.
Calderone and Valditara said Thursday that the law would be broadened to cover young people who die on the job during work experience schemes.
There have been a number of accidents involving students on work-experience schemes in Italy.
The government has vowed to make the schemes safer. (ANSA).
