(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 7 - Italy's three main trade union
federations, CGIL, CISL and UIL, will hold a rally in Rome on
Saturday October 22 to demand more action to raise work safety
amid a long spate of fatal workplace accidents, CISL General
Secretary Luigi Sbarra said Friday.
"We must stop the daily massacre in workplaces," he said.
"It is a serious and unacceptable phenomenon.
"We can't allow three deaths per day to become a sad statistical
figure, almost an ineluctable destiny in our country".
Sbarra said work safety "must become a priority of the country"
and said the October 22 rally would be preceded by week-long
assemblies in factories and territorial rallies.
Outgoing Premier Mario Draghi's government has taken a series
of actions to raise workplace safety but the spate of workplace
deaths has continued unabated. (ANSA).
