Electricity bills set to rise 59% says regulator

Would have doubled without extraordinary intervention - ARERA

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 29 - Italian power regulator ARERA said Thursday that the nation's already sky-high electricity prices are set to go up even more, with the average family's bill rising by 59%.
It said that without extraordinary measures to curtain the rise, the increase would have been 100%.
The government has allocated over 60 billion euros this year to measures to soften the impact of soaring energy prices.
ARERA Energy Division Director Massimo Ricci said Thursday that Italy was set to have energy bills that had "never been seen before". (ANSA).
