Third of pensioners get less than 1,000 euros a month

(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 11 - One third of Italian pensioners get less than 1,000 euros a month, pensions agency INPS said in its annual report Monday.
    This 32% was equal to around 5.12 million people, it said.
    Someone on nine euros an hour paying pension contributions for 30 years would accrue a pension of 750 euros, it said.
    Italian pension spending is set to rise by 24 billion euros with rising inflation this year, if an annual rate of 8% is reached, the agency added.
    Last year's pension bill was 1.55% up at 312 billion.
    Beppe Grillo, founder of the 5-Star Movement (M5S), said the figures were "crazy" and a minimum wage was "urgent".
    M5S leader and ex-premier Giuseppe Conte has set the introduction of a minimum wage among nine demands to be met to continue supporting Mario Draghi's government.
    Another key demand is a cut to the labour-tax wedge.
    The M5S may protest against Draghi by boycotting a vote on a COVID aid bill in the Senate on Wednesday. (ANSA).
