MPS stock slides after Unicredit takeover talks break down

Govt must now seek to extend privatization deadline

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 25 - The share price of Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) dropped by over 4% in early trading on Monday after talks between the Treasury and UniCredit for a takeover of the bank broke down on Sunday.
The government will now have to seek permission to extend a deadline set by the European Commission to privatize the lender, which the State took control of in 2017 with a 5.4-billion-euro bailout.
UniCredit's stock was also down in early trading on Monday.
