(ANSA) - Rome, March 13 - The OECD said Wednesday that the proposal to introduce a minimum wage of nine euros an hour would give Italy one of the highest rates for such a measure among its members. OECD Economist Andrea Garnero told the Senate's labour committee that this minimum wage would be "close to the German one" while stressing that the Italian economy is "distant from Germany's".
Social-security and pensions agency INPS told the committee that 22% of private-sector employees earn less than nine euros an hour gross, stressing that the figure does not include agricultural and domestic workers.
