(ANSA) - Rome, February 14 - Italy's anti-trust authority on
Thursday opened a probe into the prices of Sardinian sheep's
milk used to make pecorino romano DOP cheese.
The probe was opened on the basis of laws on unfair
competitive practices in the food-industry chain, sources said.
The probe, a statement said, is looking into the consortium
and the 32 cheese firms belonging to it on suspicion of imposing
milk prices on producers below average production costs.
Sardinian dairy farmers have been protesting about the low
price of milk.
