(ANSA) - Milan, December 19 - The Milan stock exchange's FTSE MIB index climbed 1.1% to 18,860 points in early trading on Wednesday after Rome and Brussels reached an agreement over Italy's budget for 2019. Bank stocks led the surge.
The spread between Italy's 10-year BTP bond and the German Bund fell to 257 basis points, down from Tuesday's closing value of 269.
The yield on the BTP slid to 2.82%.
The spread had been above the 300-points mark regularly in recent months amid tension between the European Commission and the Italian government over the budget.
