3 priorities in budget - Di Maio

Flat tax, basic income, pension overhaul

(ANSA) - Rome, September 19 - The government's three priorities - a flat tax, basic income and pension-law overhaul - will be in the 2019 budget bill, Deputy Premier Luigi Di Maio said Wednesday.
Di Maio said he had "full confidence" in Economy Minister Giovanni Tria after on Tuesday aiming what sounded like an ultimatum at him saying he "had to find the money for Italians in difficulty".
Tria has said the budget deficit will not exceed 1.6% of GDP.
Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini, by contrast, said Tuesday night that the government would use the full 3% limit set by the EU in order to fund its flagship measures.
Di Maio said Wednesday that "there are two things I can assure right now: the essential rights of citizens will not be touched and the 3% (limit) will not be breached".
There has been speculation Tria may come under pressure to resign.
Asked Wednesday if the minister could "sleep easy", Salvini said "the Italians can sleep easy".
He said the budget would "strike a balance between respecting budget limits and the right to growth".
