Deflation ends as prices rise 0.1% (2)

After seven months of drops

(ANSA) - Rome, September 30 - Italy emerged from deflation in September with the consumer price index rising 0.1% over September 2015, Istat said Friday. On a monthly basis, however, the index fell 0.2%. "After seven straight months of yearly falls, consumer prices have started rising again, albeit marginally," Istat said. The rise was largely due to a "major reduction" in the fall of energy prices, at 3.5% compared to 6.5% in August. The prices of most frequently bought goods in Italy's 'inflation trolley" stopped rising in September and instead fell 0.1% on August, Istat said. They were steady compared to September 2015, the statistics agency said. In August the trolley prices rose by 0.6%.
