Italy privacy watchdog probing WhatsApp (2)

On data-sharing with Facebook

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, September 27 - The national privacy watchdog said Tuesday it is investigating WhatsApp after it changed its privacy policy at the end of August to allow Facebook access to some user account data, "including for marketing purposes".
The Italian body asked both social media companies to disclose which data is being shared, how users are asked for their consent, and what measures are being taken to make sure rights are respected under Italian law. "(This is) considering that users' rights to revoke their consent or object appear to only be exercisable within a limited time span from when a company notice is sent to single devices," the Italian watchdog said in a statement.
It also asked for clarification as to the principle of finality, since WhatsApp user agreements don't mention the use of personal data for marketing purposes.
