One tn euros in extra fuel costs by 2030

T&R documents discrepancies btw lab and road tests

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, October 5 - New cars are now swallowing around 50% more fuel than their lab test results and the discrepancy could cost consumers one trillion euros for additional fuel purchases of 600 million liters by 2030, the European Federation for Transport & Environment (T&E) said Monday. As well, the European Union might have to import an additional six billion barrels of oil - worth 360 billion euros at current prices - in that time. T&R also said in its Mind The Gap 2015 report that what it calls the "chasm" between EU emissions reduction targets and what cars emit on the road (as opposed to in the lab) will lead to the release of an estimated additional 1.5 billion tonnes of C02 into the atmosphere by 2030.
T&R is a non-profit dedicated to bringing about "smarter, greener transport in Europe".
