(ANSA) - Tokyo, August 3 - Italian State-controlled defense and transport conglomerate Finmeccanica is important for relations between Italy and Japan, Italy's Premier Matteo Renzi said on Monday after meeting with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.

Abe on Monday also spoke about ''cooperation on security'' with Italy. In February, Finmeccanica agreed to sell its controlling stakes in Ansaldo STS, which designs and manufactures railway signalling systems, and Ansaldo Brera, a rail transport engineering company, to Japanese multinational Hitachi.
