Marchionne says car incentives bad idea

Fiat chief warns Italy not to interfere with auto market

(ANSA) - Turin, August 1 - Proposed government incentives for car buyers are a bad idea, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne said Friday.
"I hope the government decides against incentives for the auto industry," Marchionne told a press conference after shareholders formally approved the merger of Fiat and Chrysler. Earlier in the week, Transport Minister Maurizio Lupi said the Italian government was considering a form of tax incentives for public and private buyers as a possible tool to stimulate economic activity.
"I do not want incentives to warp the market," added Marchionne. "We do not want (government) intervention in the market.
Let the market go where it wants," said Marchionne.
