Surprise package Bologna qualify for Champions League

Atalanta beat Roma to close in on place in European big time

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 13 - Surprise package Bologna will join Europe's soccer royalty in the Champions League next season after their 2-0 win at Napoli on Saturday and Atalanta's 2-1 home victory over AS Roma on Sunday made sure they will finish in the top five.
Atalanta's win in Bergamo, secured with an early double by Charles De Ketelaere, also ensured that Juventus will qualify for the Champions League despite being held 1-1 in Turin by already-relegated bottom side Salernitana.
Bologna and Juve are joint third with 67 points with two games to go, which means sixth-placed Roma, who have 60, can no longer catch them.
Atalanta, who have reached the finals of this season's Europa League and of the Italian Cup, also closed in on a place in the Champions League with Sunday's win, which enabled them to leapfrog Roma and climb to fifth with 63 points and a game in hand.
Recently crowned Serie A champions Inter thrashed relegation-threatened Frosinone 5-0 on Friday and second-placed AC Milan thumped Cagliari 5-1 at San Siro on Saturday. (ANSA).
