(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 13 - Anti-Semitism can feed forms of
terrorism, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said Monday
during an event at the Shoah Memorial in Milan with life senator
and Holocaust survivor Liliana Segre.
"Since 7 October we have had a 1000% increase in reports of hate
sentiment," he said, referring to the Hamas attacks on Israel
which killed 1,200, took 250 hostages and unleashed an Israeli
response that has killed 35,000 mostly women and children in
Gaza.
"We have raised the barriers but the feeling of anti-Semitism
can fuel forms of terrorism," said the minister.
"I notice that in the public discussion there is a certain
underestimation.
"Denying someone the right to speak or assaulting a Jewish
target is the wrong thing to do.
"Any action that conceals a revival of anti-Zionist and
anti-Semitic sentiments must be rejected by all". (ANSA).
