Clashes btwn police and demonstrators at G7 in Venice

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 9 - Clashes between police and demonstrators occurred in Venice Thursday during a protest by 'social centres' (leftist and anarchist squats) based in the north-east against the G7 Justice meeting being held in the lagoon city.
    About 200 demonstrators arrived in the city from Veneto and neighbouring regions.
    Their protest march tried to get closer to the venue of the meeting and there were some baton charges by the police to prevent them from breaking through the cordoned off area.
