Torrential rain continues to cause major disruption

Landslide closes road in Liguria

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 3 - A wave of strong winds and torrential rain that has hit many parts of Italy this week continued to cause major disruption on Friday, with the northwestern region of Liguria hit particularly hard.
The rain caused a landslide that blocked the region's 523 Sestri Levante State highway in the area of the town of Castiglione Chiavarese, causing problems for commuters trying to get to work at the nearby Fincantieri and Arinox plants and hundreds of students who rely on public transport.
On Thursday the rain caused flooding and damage in many parts of Genoa, where a tree was blown down and smashed into three parked cars.
In Rome another tree was blown over, damaging three balconies.
