Mattarella stresses Army's role amid security threats

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 3 - President Sergio Mattarella stressed the importance of the Italian Army in a world increasingly threatened by conflict and insecurity in a message to the armed force for its 163rd anniversary.
    "In the geopolitical reality that we live in, where conflicts and wars undermine peace and now directly threaten the freedom and security of Europe itself, the Army has proven itself to be an essential part of our military, in defence of the Republic and the values of its Constitution, and in support of international stability and coexistence", Mattarella said in the message to Army Chief of Staff General Carmine Masiello.
