(ANSA) - ROME, APR 22 - The 25 April Liberation Day holiday
should not be not be merely a pro-Palestinian Day, the president
of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, Noemi Di segni, told
ANSA Monday stressing that it should remain a "celebration of
the Liberation for which we all fought.
"We will not be told by anyone that we are the new fascists,"
she said.
"We fought for the Liberation with our partisans and the Jewish
Brigade, despite the persecution and betrayal of us with the
racial laws.
"The concepts of Liberation and freedom are not taken for
granted today.
"Nor do we ask that they be abused or disassociated to bring
them into other contexts, against Jews and against Israel.
"We cannot be told that this is the day of the liberation of the
Palestinians, we can work on that another 364 days a year.
"Not on 25 April, not in the squares where we pay homage to the
memory of the fallen.
"Let 25 April remain 25 April and let there be no violence or
contestation of the Jewish values and contribution to the
liberation from Nazi-Fascism". (ANSA).
