(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 19 - The Emilia-Romagna mountain chalk cliffs called Gessi and related caves on Tuesday made the UNESCO world natural heritage list.
The Gessi, which stretch for over 10km in the E-R Apennines, are the oldest such formations in the iconic central Italian mountain chain, dating back some 20 million years.
Their enrollment brought to 16 the number of E-R sites on the UNESCO rolls, and to 59 those in the whole of Italy, which has more UNESCO sites than any other country. (ANSA).
