(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 8 - Pope Francis is is good condition following his abdominal surgery to fix a hernia caused by a 2021 operation Wednesday, is alert and breathing unassisted, the Vatican press office said Thursday.
    "The medical staff following the Pontiff's post-operative course informs us that Pope Francis spent a peaceful night, managing to rest for a long time; he is in good general condition, alert and breathing spontaneously. The routine control examinations are good. For the whole day he will observe the necessary post-operative rest", said the director of the Vatican Press Office, Matteo Bruni.
    "The Pope is informed of the messages of closeness and affection that have arrived in the last few hours and expresses his gratitude, at the same time asking for continued prayers for him," the Holy See spokesman added. (ANSA).
