(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 8 - Premier Giorgia Meloni will visit Tunisia Sunday with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte aimed at encouraging reforms that would trigger a critical IMF bailout amid political and social turmoil that has spurred a huge increase in migration to Italy.
The trio will meet in Tunis with President Kais Saied with the issues of migration and economic and energy cooperation topping the agenda, the European Commission said.
"There is a constructive dialogue with the Italian authorities" on the Tunisia dossier "and this is demonstrated by the fact that President von der Leyen will be with Giorgia Meloni" in the African country., said by EU Commission spokesman Eric Mamer, speaking about Sunday's mission to Tunisia.
"The fact that there is the trip does not mean that there is an agreement with Tunisia" but with President Kais Saied "there will be a discussion on the various aspects" of relations and cooperation between the EU and Tunis, said the EC spokesman.
