Murderer of 7-month-pregnant partner faces immediate trial

(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 7 - A man who confessed to stabbing to death his seven-month-pregnant partner on May 27 and trying to conceal her body is likely to face an expedited trial procedure with no preliminary hearing, judicial sources said on Wednesday.
    Upon completion of the investigation into the murder by Alessandro Impagnatiello, 30, of Giulia Tramontano, 29, at their home in Senago near Milan, the sources added that prosecutors may request not only an immediate trial but also that premeditation be considered as an aggravating circumstance, after this was excluded by the preliminary investigations judge in the pre-trial custody order.
    On Tuesday sources close to the investigation said they had gathered elements suggesting Impagnatiello had planned the murder several days before actually killing Tramontano, including internet searches relating to the crime.
    Sources also said the barman at a luxury hotel in Milan also went to great lengths to clean up after the stabbing - so much so that the many traces of blood found by forensic police during an inspection on Tuesday could only be detected using Luminol.
    The apartment was also said to be in "maniacal" order, leading investigators to suspect Impagnatiello of obsessive-compulsive behaviour.
    The man was having an affair with another woman - who has not been named - at the time of the murder and during his confession last Wednesday he said he had acted out of stress due to the situation.
    The murder is the latest in a long string of femicides in Italy and has grabbed headlines.
    Impagnatiello's mother has described her son as a "monster".
