(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 6 - Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Tuesday he would see International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tunisia next week.
Tajani was speaking after talking with Premier Giorgia Meloni who visited the north African country earlier in the day and assured President Kais Saied that Italy is working to facilitate an agreement between Tunis and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a loan to help the North African country address the severe financial crisis it is facing.
The unstable situation in the North African country has been a major factor in a huge increase in the number of migrants coming to Italy from across the Mediterranean this year.
Tajani said "next week I will go to speak also with Kristalina Georgieva, we'll see how to help the country. Let's try to look at Tunisia's problems, it's in our interests to have a stable situation.
"We need to get across at a European level and at the IMF that we need to start talks, to accompany the funding for reforms.
I'll also speak about it with Blinken next week, it's in our interest. We continue to work by involving Europe and the IMF".
Tajani is also deputy premier. (ANSA).
