(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 31 - Some 16,491,892 passengers moved
through Italian airports in April 2022, up 21.7% over the same
month in 2022 and 2.5% more than in April 2019, airport
managers' association Assaeroporti said on Wednesday.
International passenger traffic drove the positive result, with
10.7 million international passengers, or just over two-thirds
of the total, passing through Italian airports in April, a rise
of 30% compared to April 2022 and down by 1.6% compared to April
2019.
Domestic passengers totaled 5.8 million, exceeding 2019 levels
by 11%.
Overall passenger traffic in the first four months of 2023 also
returned to almost pre-Covid levels, coming in at 52.3 million,
down 2.4 percentage points over the same period in 2019.
"The result achieved by Italian airports in April is excellent
news and confirms the resilience of the sector," said
Assaeroporti President Carlo Borgomeo.
"We hope that the terrible years of Covid are now behind us and
that the sector is increasingly central to our country's
development policies," he added. (ANSA).
