(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 30 - The disembarkation of 605 migrants
and refugees rescued by the Geo Barents humanitarian ship
operated by Doctors without Borders (Msf) in the Sicilian
Channel on Saturday got under way in the Puglia port city of
Bari on Tuesday morning.
The group from Syria, Bangladesh, Palestine, Egypt and Pakistan
includes 151 minors - of whom 111 unaccompanied - including 20
under the age of 13 and 11 women.
Some 24 people were said to have specific health needs, of whom
14 reportedly needed urgent medical attention.
On Saturday Msf said it had rescued the group from an
overcrowded fishing boat off the coast of Sicily in an operation
coordinated by the Italian authorities.
The ship was subsequently assigned the port of Bari for
disembarkation. (ANSA).
