(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 28 - The San Carlo theatre in Naples has been forced to cancel a Sunday night performance of Paisiello's Don Chisciotte (Don Quixote) due to a strike by workers at the world's oldest opera house.
Unions said that uncertainties about the future, with superintendent Stéphane Lissner scheduled to retire from the first of June due to an 'ad personam' decree law that 'retires' him having already turned 70, and the stabilisation of precarious workers were at the basis of the protest.
This is the first time, however, that the ongoing agitation has caused a performance to be cancelled: on two occasions in the past few days, guest artists had performed successfully, even though they were accompanied only by a pianist from outside the opera house's ensemble. (ANSA).
