(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 18 - Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said on
Thursday his administration would soon be announcing the
restructuring of the Fascia Verde (Green Zone) restricted
traffic area in order to keep the city within legally binding
parameters for air pollution.
"We must act now, it is not a matter of political discretion,"
Gualtieri told a forum on the public administration underway in
the capital, adding that respecting PM10 and NO2 limits is an
"obligation".
"We are considering derogation mechanisms, mechanisms involving
mileage, (the idea is) not to completely block circulation but
to limit it, as is the case in Milan," said the mayor.
The 'new' green restricted traffic zone will be "a balanced plan
that will reduce pollution without imposing too heavy a burden
on those who cannot afford to sustain it," he said. (ANSA).
