Births in Italy down 3% in 2022 - Istat

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 17 - The birth rate in Italy fell by 3% in the first 11 months of 2022 over the same period the previous year, national statistics institute (Istat) president Gian Carlo Blangiardo said on Friday.
    "Each year we set the record for the lowest birth rate ever," Blangiardo said on the sidelines of the national forum of family associations.
    There were 400,000 births in Italy in 2021, according to Istat.
    Definitive data for 2022 is set to be released on Monday.
    However, the Istat chief said it is likely the figure for 2022 will be lower. (ANSA).
