(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 12 - Pope Francis said in a newspaper interview Sunday that people must work for peace against indifference.
"The wish for the future is peace, peace in the martyred Ukraine and in all the other countries that suffer the horror of war," the Pope said in the interview with Fatto Quotidiano on the 10 year anniversary of his pontificate Monday.
"One thing that makes me suffer a lot is the globalisation of indifference, turning one's face to the other side and saying and thinking that if they did not make weapons for a year, hunger would end." Francis then spoke of corruption, which "makes the soul rot.
"In the Church, as in politics and in society in general, we must always warn against the grave danger of corruption".
Turning his attention to the mafia, Francis said "Mafiosi are excommunicated: they have blood money on their hands. They do business with weapons and drugs. They kill young people and society. They kill the future. We must be clear: there is no place in the Church for mafiosi!" (ANSA).
