Schlein taps Bonaccini as PD chair

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 12 - New Democratic Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein on Sunday tapped her defeated primary rival and Emilia-Romagna Governor Stefano Bonaccini as new party chair.
    "I propose voting Bonaccini as president of the assembly", said Schlein to the PD general assembly, taking place at the Centro congressi La Nuvola conference centre in Rome.
    The candidacy of Bonaccini, expected to be overwhelmingly backed by the rank-and-file, is seen as a way of shoring up party unity in the wake of her potentially divisive election two weeks ago.
