(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 7 - The death toll from the Sunday February 26 migrant boat shipwreck off Calabria rose to 72 after the body of a three-year-old girl was found Tuesday.
As many as 40 more are missing and feared dead in the disaster, which happened when the boat broke off in rough seas at Cutro.
Some 15 of the dead are children, and at least one a baby.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who causd a row by saying desperation should never justify putting one's children at risk, spurring calls for his resignation, is to report to parliament on the disaster later Tuesday.
Deputy Premier, Transport Minister and rightwing League party leader Mateo Salvini said Tuesday the government was 100% behind the interior minister. (ANSA).
