Climber falls to death while cleating path in Marche

Body recovered overnight in Pesaro area

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 3 - A 50-year-old Italian mountain climber fell at least 20 metres to his death after slipping while cleating a path near Pesaro in Marche on Friday, local sources said.
    The victim, an experienced climber, fell while 'bolting', i.e.
    equipping a route with pitons, a new climbing route on the Balza della Penna cliff at Piobbico (Pesaro Urbino).
    During the night, operations to recover the lifeless body were concluded by the Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service.
    Having had no news of him since early afternoon, yesterday his fiancée had alerted the wide circle of climbing acquaintances that the man had, after numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact him by phone. (ANSA).
