Cospito partner suspends hunger strike, focus on him

Ours is a battle for all says Anna Beniamino in Rome jail

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 2 - The partner of jailed anarchist leader Alfredo Cospito, on hunger strike for 106 days against his harsh mafia-style 41 bis prison regime, has suspended her own prison hunger strike so the focus can be on his struggle to get the 41 bis lifted for all prisoners including mafiosi.
Anna Beniamino has stopped refusing solid food at Rome's high-security Rebibbia Prison after 37 days of a hunger strike to raise awareness about her partner's campaign.
"I'm reached my objective, to get people talking about Alfredo Cospito's condition," she said.
Cospito's lawyer said earlier Thursday his client had lost 45 kg and was approaching a critical threshold, but determined to press on even in the face of irreparable consequences.
Beniamino told reporters: "We mustn't lower our guard on detention conditions. Ours is a battle for all". (ANSA).
