(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 30 - European Affairs Minister Raffaele Fitto said Wednesday that Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP, or PNRR in Italian) spending is set to be a long way from the target of 42 billion euros by the end of this year.
The post-COVID-19 NRRP seeks to make the Italian economy Greener and more modern with a massive investment programme based on almost 200 billion euros in EU grants and low-interest loans.
"The forecast spending spending of the NRRP when it was approved was 42 billion euros by December 31 this year," Fitto said.
"This spending was revised down to 33 billion and, in September, revised to 21 billion.
"In the next few days we will see how much has been spent but I fear that the spending percentage won't be much higher and it will be far from 22 billion euros.
"The spending indicator is very worrying because if we put all the available resources together and make a projection for 2026, it is clear that a discussion at the European and national level will be necessary". (ANSA).
