(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 20 - Three Italians and a Togo citizen have been kidnapped by armed men in Mali, local sources cited by France Presse said Friday.

The abduction, AFP reported, took place Thursday evening in the southeast of the country, according to a local official and a Malian security source.
"Last night armed men on board a vehicle kidnapped three Italians and a Togolese man in the locality of Sincina," said the sources, cited by AFP.

Mali's human rights situation deteriorated in 2020 amid ongoing abuses by armed Islamist groups, ethnic militias, and government security forces.
A political crisis resulted in the August toppling of the government in a military coup. (ANSA).
