(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 19 - Italy and the world must remain
united in defence of freedom and must keep their eyes open to
defend it amid Russia's war on Ukraine, President Sergio
Mattarella said Thursday.
"We must stay united in the defence of liberty and democracy,"
the had of State said at a ceremony in Padua marking the 800th
anniversary of the northern city's university's foundation.
"That is the heritage to defend and which leads us not to close
our eyes.
"It is important to guarantee the freedom of all and you fully
achieve this only if others achieve it too.
"All this leads us to not close our eyes, to work to reaffirm
international law.
"These are the values that must be actively defended". (ANSA).
