COVID jail inmate cases more than doubles in 10 days

Over 100 cases in seven prisons, 173 in Turin

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 19 - The number of Italian prison inmates with COVID-19 has more than doubled in 10 days, to 2,586, authorities said Wednesday.
    This figure dates back to January 17, and is more than double the 1,057 reported 10 days earlier, on January 6.
    Almost all the case are asymptomatic while 14 have been hospitalised.
    Some seven jails have over 100 cases and the highest is Turin prison with 173.
    That is followed by Florence Sollicciano (128), Naples Secondigliano (144), Naples Poggioreale (125), Busto Arsizio (120), Prato (110) and Pavia (103).
    There are 1,572 prison officers with COVID, and five warders have been taken to hospital. (ANSA).
