(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 5 - A 103-year-old Italian woman has
become the oldest woman in the world to be operated on for
breast cancer.
Two years after the procedure, now at the age of 105, Carmelina
Paolina Beltramelli shows no sign of the tumour coming back,
said Bergamo's Humanitas Gavazzeni Hospital.
The groundbreaking operation has been illustrated in the journal
Aging and Health Research - Elsevier under the title
'Multidisciplinary management of breast cancer in a 103 years
old patient: the ultimate primum non nocere challenge'.
"The article highlights the importance of prevention and
treatment at al ages, and of an interdisciplinary approach to
oncolological pathologies," said the hospital (ANSA).
