(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 2 - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro continues his visit to Italy on Tuesday after clashes between police and protestors marred his trip to Padua on Monday.
Police used water cannons on Monday on protests angry about the presence of the right-wing leader, who has come under fire for his environmental policies and the scale of deforestation in Amazonia that has taken place during his administration and for his government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He got a warm reception, on the other hand, in Anguillara, where he was awarded the freedom of the town.
On Tuesday he is visiting Pistoia to pay homage to the Brazilians who fell during the Liberation of Italy during World War II at a monument of the tomb of an unknown soldier.
Security measures are tight for the ceremony. (ANSA).
