Centre-left set to win Rome, Turin runoffs - projections

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 18 - Centre-left mayoral candidate Roberto Gualtieri was ahead of centre-right rival Enrico Michetti in the runoff for Rome mayor, by 59.1% to 40.9%%, according to an Opinio-Rai projection on Monday.
    Similarly, the centre left's Stefano Lo Russo was ahead of centre-right rival Paolo Damilano in the Turin runoff, by 59.2% to 40.8%, according to another Opinio-Rai projection Centre-right candidate Roberto Dipiazza and the centre left's Francesco Russo, meanwhile, were neck-and-neck in the runoff vote to be Trieste's new mayor, according to an Opinio Italia exit poll for state broadcaster Rai.
    The poll put both candidates on 48-52% of the vote.
    Regional capitals Rome, Turin and Trieste were among 10 provincial capitals to hold runoff votes on Sunday and Monday, in elections in 65 cities involving five million eligible voters.
    The other provincial capitals were Varese, Savona, Latina, Benevento, Caserta, Isernia and Cosenza.
    The centre left outdid the centre right in the first round, winning three of the six big cities up for grabs, Milan, Naples and Bologna, by getting over 50% and averting the need for runoffs. (ANSA).
