(ANSA) - MONZA, JUN 19 - A lawyer from the northern town of Usmate Velate, near Monza, has become the first person in Italy to be convicted of the crime of "judicial stalking".
The man was given a four-year prison term and suspended from his profession for five years after being found guilty of using judicial means to 'stalk' a businessman from Brianza.
Prosecutors said the lawyer embarked on over 200 civil and criminal law suits against the businessman after he stopped using his services in 2011.
They said he used "systematic, specious, incessant, groundless law suits" to harass the victim and his family, forcing them to "change their habits and exposing them to continual legal costs and serious consequences in professional and personal image terms". (ANSA).
