Coronavirus: 333 new cases in Italy, deaths up by 66

Number of intensive-care cases up for first time in weeks

(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 18 - The Civil Protection Department said Thursday that Italy has registered 333 new cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
    That is basically steady compared to the 329 new cases registered on Wednesday.
    The department said that 216 of the new cases, 64.8% of the total, were registered in Lombardy, the worst-hit region.
    It said that only four regions reported no new cases on Thursday - Umbria, Valle D'Aosta, Molise and Basilicata.
    The department said that 66 COVID-19 sufferers have died in the last 24 hours, taking the overall death toll up to 34,514.
    That was up from 43 deaths on Wednesday.
    It said 36 of Thursday's deaths were in Lombardy, up from 14 on Wednesday.
    It said that 180,544 people have recovered from COVID-19 here, up 1,089 on one day.
    It said 23.101 people are currently infected with the coronavirus in Italy, down 824 in a day.
    The total number of reported cases in Italy, including the currently positive, the deceased and the recovered, is now 238.,159.
    After several weeks of constant falls, the number of coronavirus patients in intensive care has increased.
    The department said 168 patients are in intensive care, five more than Wednesday. (ANSA).
